Dastle 03-68-06

Dastle Type 3 – Chassis 03-68-06

Chassis 6 was built as a kit bought from Geoff Rumble and raced by Rick Stevens during the 1968 season, debuting at Ipswich on 6 April 1968. During the year Rick won two races on the club circuit at Brands Hatch and also the Harry Barnes award. Harry was Spedeworth’s public relations manager at the time.

Rick then sold the car to Tony Stubbs for the 1969 season, the car retaining it’s original racing number, 6, which Tony kept throughout his racing career. Tony raced the car in 1970 as well, joining Tony Bostock in the “Whiting Electrical Team.” The car also was raced in the midgets’ first visit to Holland in May 1970. The car proved to be effective on the long tracks once again as Tony won the first ever Midget race at Lydden Hill.

In 1971 Tony Stubbs joined the newly formed MARC and raced a mk7 Dastle and the mk3 was raced by Radio One DJ Johnnie Walker and Peter Jopp’s mechanic David Underhill.

We are researching the history of the car from there, but it resurfaced in 1993 when enthusiast Dick Nadin from Bridport in Dorset rescued the car from a friend’s garden and contacted the Grand Prix Midget club for information. Prior to this it was believed that the car was in storage at Lenham in Kent.

Dick restored the car and got it back to good working order and ran in a couple of hillclimbs. He later sold the car to Sandy Glen who completed further work before selling the car to Ben Pashley.
